Lagos is the largest town in this area and despite the influx of tourists during the summer remains a real town with a fishing port and market centre giving Lagos a sense of independence and life of its own. 6 kilometres to the west of Lagos is the old fishing village of Praia da Luz. Much quieter than Lagos and more popular with families, Luz has its own golden sandy beach set beneath the ochre, reds and greens of the Atalaia cliffs. A palm fringed promenade runs from the Forteleza restaurant at one end along the beach front to the old fishing huts and beach bar at the other. |
